MOUNT KILIMANJARO NOW HAS HIGH-SPEED INTERNET. We are thrilled to share the latest news from Tanzania: Mount Kilimanjaro can now connect to the internet quickly! Read the latest Tanzania Zanzibar Safari news release below to learn more about this great development. It’s a huge step toward making some of the country’s wildest places safer and easier to get to.
In a big step forward for Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro now has high-speed internet.
Tanzania Zanzibar Safari, a high-end travel business, is happy to say that Mount Kilimanjaro now has high-speed internet thanks to a new investment from Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTC). The broadband towers were officially linked up on Tuesday, August 16th. This means that people 3,720 meters above sea level can now connect to the internet. Many people in Tanzania see the move as an important historical moment for the area.
Tanzania’s minister of information and communication, Nape Moses Nnauye, praised the progress while launching the service at Horombo Huts, a famous stop on the way to the top of Kilimanjaro. “Before, visitors and porters who had to work without internet were in a bit of danger,” he said. “This point on the mountain is where all visitors will be able to connect.” The final goal is to have full connectivity by the end of 2022. At 5,895 meters, Uhuru Peak will be covered.
Kilimanjaro has become safer.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain above sea level in the world. It is a must-see for both beginner hikers and expert mountain climbers, with over 35,000 visitors each year. Visitors to Mt. Kilimanjaro can now get much better access to safety and guidance tools thanks to the new internet facilities.
Better safety measures and the fact that Mount Kilimanjaro is now linked mean that tourists can stay in touch with family and friends back home and share their trip of a lifetime. In a recent interview with the Dutch news network RTLnieuws, Hjörids, Tanzania Zanzibar Safari’s guide on the scene, talked about what it means for visitors that the mountain is now linked.
She said, “It’s really cool that you can now connect to the internet all the way up on Kilimanjaro.” “It’s not just a fun thing to do and post on social media; it’s also a very helpful change.” Having this level of connection can save lives when it comes to salvage and rescue work on the difficult slopes of Africa’s tallest mountain.
How to stay linked in the wildest places on Earth
Nape Moses Nnauye also asked the TTC to expand these services to more tourist spots and national parks across the country so that the whole country could be linked. This is a step toward a more connected Tanzania in the near future.
“Every year, the tourism industry in Tanzania grows,” says Robbin Meulemans, founder of Tanzania Zanzibar Safari. “Changes like this make infrastructure much better and help that market grow.” As one of the most popular things for our Tanzania Zanzibar Safari guests to do, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, we all know how important this huge project is for Tanzania and are looking forward to better safety and connection for everyone.
