Responsible Travel
Responsible Travel. If you choose to travel with Tanzania Zanzibar Safari, you are choosing to travel in a way that is safe, responsible, and good for the environment. We really want to help Tanzania’s social and economic growth as a business, and we’re involved in a number of programs that do just that.
We know that the great wilds of Tanzania need to be protected and kept alive because we are a trusted travel company in Tanzania that offers amazing wildlife and nature experiences. That’s why we’re committed to doing business in a way that doesn’t harm the environment and to helping with environmental projects all over the country.
Giving carbon-neutral tasks top priority
We pick the luxury lodges and Tanzanian hotels we work with based on a strict set of environmental standards. Sustainable business methods are one of the most important things on that list. From cutting down on waste to using green energy. 75% of the places to stay in Tanzania that are specialized in tourism use solar cells.
Eco-friendly activities are a big part of our custom-made Tanzania holidays. Many of our guests’ favorite things to do, like hiking, biking, paddling, and camping, leave only real marks.
Putting up trees
We encourage our guests to travel in a way that doesn’t harm the environment, and as part of our Manyara Tree Planting Project, we try to lower our own carbon footprint by planting trees. We were happy to start this project on a 30-acre plot of land in the Manyara region in 2020. We have added 18 acres near Arusha National Park since then, which has let us plant thousands of native trees.
Training poor kids who are at risk
Teenage and young adult unemployment is a big problem in Tanzania because many kids and teens can’t go to school and get an education. Also, a lot of kids end up living on the streets of Tanzania’s big towns. We care a lot about this issue here at Tanzania Zanzibar Safari, and we are committed to help to solve it. When we opened the Hakuna Matata Academy in 2022, our goal was to give at-risk youth a chance and make the country a better place to stay. It got off to a good start with six trainers and a few classes, and now:
Every year, we teach 200 street kids new life skills with the goal of eventually giving them training to work in the hospitality business.
To help improve the quality of Tanzania’s tourism business, we train the staff of the hotels we offer in how to be good hosts.
We teach guides about wildlife and how important it is to treat clients with respect.
Giving our workers help
The people who work hard for us are our most valuable asset. Every single person who works for Tanzania Zanzibar Safari, from the head office in Arusha to the expert safari guides in the bush, has to go through a very strict hiring process. Because our team is made up of only the best people, we’re happy to pay them a lot more than the average. We believe in putting money into our employees and giving everyone a chance to do well.
Travel Africa that is certified as sustainable
The people who started Tanzania Zanzibar Safari came up with the idea for Certified Sustainable Travel Africa. As the top tourist company in Tanzania, we’ve always put sustainability and protecting the environment at the center of what we do. From our education and training programs in hospitality to our local recycling efforts and the very high standards you’ll find in all of our Tanzania Zanzibar Safari-affiliated partners, we’re leading the way in making Tanzania a greener place to live. Businesses in Tanzania’s tourist industry that follow sustainable business practices and put the environment first are recognized with this certificate. It’s part of our long-term goal to make Tanzania a sustainable place for everyone.
Eco-Friendly and Fair Business Practices Certified on Kilimanjaro
Safe travel is at the heart of everything we do at Tanzania Zanzibar Safari. We’re excited to say that the Kilimanjaro Responsible Trekking Organization (KRTO) has now officially approved us. This award shows how dedicated we are to climbing in an honest way, making sure that our porters, guides, and whole crew are treated with respect and paid properly.
Because we work with KRTO, we also follow the strictest rules of environmental duty. For example, we follow the Leave No Trace philosophy to make sure that trekking doesn’t have too much of an effect on Kilimanjaro’s fragile ecosystem.
When you choose Tanzania Zanzibar Safari, you’re picking a hiking company that cares about the people and the environment that make Kilimanjaro so special. Along with groups like KPAP and IMEC, we’re making responsible and environmentally friendly travel the new norm.
